Warner Norcross Partner Melissa N. Collar Elected to the American College of Real Estate Lawyers

Melissa N. Collar, a partner with Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, has been elected a 2016 fellow of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers.

Admission to the college is by invitation after considerable peer review. Members must be recognized as distinguished real estate practitioners who observe high standards of professional and ethical responsibility and who have contributed substantially to improvement of real estate law. The college has a membership of approximately 960 attorneys.

A licensed real estate broker, Collar chairs the firm's Condominium Practice Group and is the past chair of the Real Estate Services Group. She concentrates her practice in the acquisition, development, construction, leasing and sale of real property and regularly prepares architect, construction, design/build and integrated project delivery contracts, condominium documents, tax incentive and abatement applications and leases.

She also chaired the firm’s Relocation Committee, which led to the decision to relocate the Grand Rapids office of Warner Norcross to a new location in downtown Grand Rapids. Slated to open in 2019, the firm will anchor a new mixed-use development in the city’s Central Business District.

Active professionally, Collar is a member of the State Bar of Michigan where she serves as vice chair of the Real Property Section and council coordinator. She is also a member of the Grand Rapids Bar Association and the American Bar Association, as well as the American Institute of Architects, the Commercial Alliance of Realtors, Commercial Real Estate Women, Grand Rapids Association of Realtors and the Home and Building Association of Greater Grand Rapids.

Collar was named the 2015 Grand Rapids Real Estate Lawyer of the Year in 2015 and the 2014 Grand Rapids Construction Law Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers in America, where she has been recognized since 2010. Collar has been included in Michigan Super Lawyers since 2007. She was also listed among its top 25 Women Business Super Lawyers and the top 50 Women Michigan Super Lawyers in 2015. In 2014, she was named a Leading Lawyer in Michigan by Michigan Lawyers Weekly.

Collar co-founded the West Michigan affiliate of Inforum and serves as its council chair and as a member of the regional nominating committee. She was recognized as one of Inforum's 40 Inner Circle honorees in both 2015 and 2011. She is a graduate of Leadership Grand Rapids and was honored as an Extraordinary Leader by the Center for Community Leadership in 2015.

Collar serves on the Grand Rapids Downtown Market leasing committee and is a member of the Women’s Resource Center Pillar Awards host committee.
