James J. Steffel, a partner with Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, has been elected president of the board of directors of the Lake Michigan Estate Planning Council.
Steffel, who concentrates his practice in trusts, estates and closely held entities, will serve as president of the organization for its 2005-2006 operating year. LMEPC, which covers the Lakeshore from Holland to Ludington, endeavors to keep members abreast of laws and other developments in the field of estate planning.
Steffel, who has two decades of legal experience in Michigan, joined Warner Norcross in 2000. He currently serves on the executive committee of Mercy General Health Partners Development Council, is the chair of the Mercy General Health Partners Planned Giving Committee, and a member of the Community Foundation for Muskegon County's Next Generation Committee.
He frequently serves as a presenter or commentator at estate and business planning seminars for many organizations, including the Institute for Continuing Legal Education and the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants.
Steffel is a member of the Muskegon County Bar Association, the Florida Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan and the American Bar Association, as well as being active in numerous sections. He is a native of South Haven, Michigan. He received his law degree from the University of Toledo College of Law, where he was a member of The University of Toledo Law Review, and his advanced law degree in estate planning from the University of Miami School of Law in Coral Gables, Florida.
