Minority Business Champion Award Given to Warner Norcross Attorney

Dawn Garcia Ward, an attorney with the law firm Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, has received the Minority Business Champion Award from the Michigan West Coast Chamber of Commerce.

Since 2006, the Minority Business Champion Award is given annually to an individual who promotes or positively impacts the minority business community, values diversity and promotes appreciation of differences. The recipients are nominated by the members of the Chamber and selected by committee.

Ward was selected because of her commitment to business development and leadership of the Professional Lakeshore Latinas, an affinity group through the Chamber. The group of professional women has grown to a membership of nearly 70 in just a few years and continues to grow and thrive.

“This year’s Minority Business Champion Award recipients have a passion for helping the minority community grow and thrive,” said Ed Amaya, who presented the award to Dawn and group cofounder Juanita Bocanegra yesterday. “They have taken their own business experiences to mentor others. Together, this dynamic duo bring a spirit of camaraderie and leadership to the professional Latina community and are truly minority business champions.”

A former litigator, Ward concentrates her practice on records and information management for small to large entities, including several Fortune 500 companies. She routinely writes and speaks on the importance of proper data management.

Active personally and professionally, she is a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of Michigan, Hispanic Bar Association of Michigan and State Bar of New Mexico. She is a member of the Association for Information and Image Management and ARMA International.

Ward was named one of the “50 Most Influential Women in West Michigan" by The Grand Rapids Business Journal in 2016.

She serves on the board of directors for ARMA-West Michigan Chapter and Holland Hospital and is a past director for the Hispanic Center of West Michigan and the Holland Historical Trust.
