John H. Logie Receives State Bar Award for Distinguished Public Service

John H. Logie, a retired partner of the law firm Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, has been selected to receive the 2011 State Bar Frank J. Kelley Public Service Award.

Logie, who served as mayor of Grand Rapids from 1992-2003, has a lengthy record of service to the community. During his three terms in office, he tackled issues such as economic development, historic preservation, urban revitalization, homelessness, shared infrastructure and related challenges. He is recognized as the longest-serving mayor of Grand Rapids.

Logie is the first Warner Norcross attorney to receive the Frank J. Kelley Public Service award. Named in honor of Michigan’s longest-serving attorney general, it is presented annually in recognition for service in public office that strengthens the American system of justice under the law. First given in 1998, the award honors those who demonstrate the highest standards of integrity, fairness, leadership and dedication to the ideals of democracy.

“We are very pleased that John’s distinguished record of public service has been recognized by the State Bar of Michigan,” said Douglas E. Wagner, managing partner of Warner Norcross. “Our law firm recognizes the importance of civic engagement, and we are proud of the fact that our alumni include mayors, judges, U.S. Congressmen and an attorney general.”

The award was presented during the State Bar of Michigan’s Annual Meeting Awards Banquet yesterday.

Logie practiced litigation, health law and real estate law at Warner Norcross for 42 years before retiring earlier this year. Active both professionally and in the community, he is the past president of the Michigan Society of Hospital Attorneys and the Historical Society of Michigan. Additionally, he has served on the boards of Goodwill Industries, the Grand Rapids PTA Council and the American Cancer Society, among other organizations.

Logie has been honored with numerous awards, including the Slykhouse Lifetime Achievement Award from the Economic Club of Grand Rapids, Distinguished Community Trustee Award from Leadership Grand Rapids and the Neighborhood Business Champion Award from the Grand Rapids Neighborhood Alliance, among other awards. He has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America and Who’s Who in American Law.
