James L. Scott Named Fellow of Michigan State Bar Foundation

9/10/2012

James L. Scott, a partner at the law firm of Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, has been named a fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation.

The foundation extends fellowship to lawyers who demonstrate “outstanding legal ability and devotion to community.”  Membership is invitation-only and limited each year to a select number of attorneys.  Fellows work to support the Foundation, which provides leadership and grants to improve access for all to the justice system, including support for civil legal aid to the poor, law-related education and conflict resolution.

Scott concentrates his practice on technology and intellectual property, with a focus on trademark, copyright and domain name acquisition and enforcement.  He represents clients in numerous industries, including the Internet, consumer goods, automotive supply, furniture, health care, food, insurance, financial services and others, as well as nonprofits.

Scott is a member of the International Trademark Association, the International Technology Law Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, Automation Alley and aimWest.  He also serves on the board of Pregnancy Resource Center.

Active professionally, Scott is a member of the American Bar Association and the Grand Rapids Bar Association, in addition to his affiliation with the State Bar of Michigan.

More than 1,600 lawyers have been elected as fellows since the Michigan State Bar Foundation was established in 1947. The Foundation recognizes the legal profession’s responsibilities to the public and has made more than $93 million in grants to support civil legal aid to low-income families and vulnerable people with critical legal needs and to improve the administration of justice by supporting law-related education and conflict-resolution projects.
