The oil and gas attorneys at our firm represent working interest owners, major and independent producers, midstream and downstream companies and gas field service providers, among others.

Our experience ranges from issues relating to exploration of oil and gas resources and access/condemnation litigation for pipeline rights of way to multimillion dollar royalty disputes and environmental disputes in both state and federal courts. We also have significant experience before state regulatory agencies and assist our clients in matters involving their interests in oil and gas leases.

Here are some examples of our oil and gas law experience:
  • Lead counsel for a pipeline company during construction of a natural gas pipeline across Michigan, including litigation for property access, resolution of condemnation and restoration disputes and conduct of settlement negotiations
  • Represented mineral owners against the State of Michigan in a takings case
  • Trial counsel for major independent oil and gas well exploration companies, operators and interest owners involving property access and restoration, production costs, interest, royalty, and well-site performance disputes
  • Counsel for natural gas producer in connection with gas purchase contract
  • Trial counsel for a northern Michigan natural gas operator and working interest owner as the defendant in a multimillion dollar dispute with one of its largest royalty owners; after trial, court summarily dismissed claims related to alleged breaches of lease and the duty to act as a reasonably prudent operator. The court awarded the plaintiff no damages on a second breach of lease claim
  • Represent clients in exploration contract litigation
  • Represented natural gas operator against State of Michigan involving claims of environmental liability caused by prior well operator
  • Counsel oil and gas exploration companies in connection with their participation in drilling programs
  • Lead counsel for a gas utility company, successfully directing and implementing litigation strategy for property damage claims coordinating more than 50 pending claims for a gas utility company and negotiating advantageous resolution prior to engaging in prolonged litigation
  • Represented various natural gas operators, utilities and customers in regulatory proceedings before the Michigan Public Service Commission
  • Represent various parties in negotiation of oil and gas leases
  • Provide title examination services for oil, gas and mineral resources
  • Coordinated large transfers of royalty and working interests
