Andrew H. Thorson, a partner with Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, has been elected to serve on the Council of the International Law Section of the Michigan State Bar.
Thorson, who concentrates his practice in international law with a particular emphasis on Japan, will serve a three-year term. The section provides education, information and analysis about international law and issues of concern through meetings, seminars, Web site, public service programs and publication of a journal.
Active professionally, Thorson is a member of the American Bar Association, Japan Business Society of Detroit, Michigan Global Partnership and the state bars in California, Washington and the District of Columbia. He writes and speaks widely on Japanese business and legal issues.
Thorson holds a bachelor of arts degree from the James Madison College of Michigan State University and a doctor of jurisprudence from the Boston University School of Law. At the invitation of the Japanese government, he studied law in Japan, receiving his master's of law degree from the Kyoto University Graduate School of Law.
